FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART October 21, 2024
I make it a point to avoid turning the pulpit into a political post because God called me to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ from that position. Unlike some churches I have seen, with bumper stickers on their church van promoting a political candidate, I have made it made it my policy to avoid lowering the purpose of the church to the level of the advancement of a particular political party or a person running for office. We are here to exalt the matchless Name of Jesus Christ!
At the same time, I do share concerns for the well-being of our country. I do have my own opinions on how things should be run and who is most qualified to serve in higher offices within the various levels of local, state and federal government. I am not afraid to share my views, in private conversations, with anyone who is interested in hearing them. However, I do not use my position as a pastor to try to sway others to share my political beliefs, but rather to convince them of their need for Jesus as Lord and Savior!
I am happy to share that for the past two weeks I have been privileged to participate in meetings praying for our country. The first gathering was held at Cordova Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon, October 13th. The latest meeting was at Big Creek Baptist Church in Millington on October 20th. We are meeting on Sunday afternoons, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The next two prayer meetings will be held on October 27th at New Church Memphis, 4917 Macon Road, and on November 3rd at Bartlett Hills Baptist Church, 4641 Ellendale Road in Bartlett. These meeting are open to anyone and everyone who is interested in praying for God’s blessings on our nation and churches.
I am grateful for these gatherings and for my fellow pastors who agreed to lead them. These dear brothers include: Dale Gravatt (Big Creek), Gary Griffis (New Church), and Elliott Linhoss (Bartlett Hills). I am also thankful for our Executive Director for the Mid-South Baptist Association, Dr. Mitch Martin, who suggested these prayer times. He and his dear wife, Myra, have been faithful to attend each prayer meeting. Feel free to join us at these next gatherings!
Serving in love,
Bro. Jim
