FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART July 1, 2024
Some of the most influential people in my life have been my Sunday School teachers. For the boy “Growing Up on Dump Ground Road,” Sunday School attendance was just as regular as school attendance. There was never any question about whether or not we were going to Sunday School and Worship on Sundays at First Baptist Church. It was the Lord’s Day and we were the Lord’s people, so we belonged at the Lord’s House!
I still enjoy being a part of a Sunday School class, when given the opportunity. We have been blessed with some loving, caring and competent teachers at Cordova Baptist Church. Yet occasionally, one will be out and I am given the chance to fill in for them. This has stirred my heart to make teaching a class a part of my regular schedule. After much prayer, I have decided to start a “Pastor’s Class” in the sanctuary, beginning next Sunday, July 7th. It is not my intention to take anyone away from another class, but to encourage those not attending to join me in the study of God’s Word.
We will be using the “Explore the Bible” material from Lifeway, which is currently studying the Book of Acts. The first lesson for this class is entitled, “Accountable,” from Acts 4:36-5:11. While I know that it takes some extra effort to get up early and be at Sunday School at 9:15 a.m., I also know that the rewards from studying God’s Word are well worth the effort.
A special reward also awaits all those in attendance next Sunday, as we are having a church-wide “Pot Luck Fellowship,” after church. In Church Council, we decided not to have our annual July 4th cookout on Thursday, but instead to have a fellowship lunch on Sunday. Bring your appetites and your favorite foods to share with your faith family. I hope to see you here for an exciting time of fun, food and fellowship!
Serving in love,
Bro. Jim
