FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART September 16, 2024

Our Bible study last Wednesday night was about how God set the rainbow in the sky, as a sign of the covenant that He made to never again destroy the earth with a flood. With all the rain we have had lately, we are looking for a rainbow in the sky as an indication that the stormy weather is coming to an end. As much as we needed the rain, we are all about ready for some sunshine and a dry spell.

Yet, our inconvenience resulting from the rainfall pales in comparison to the troubles faced by those who experienced destruction from the recent Hurricane Francine. I was talking to a lady in a local restaurant who was staying in a nearby hotel because a tree had fallen on her house. We know that many people who were in the direct path of the hurricane suffered major property damage and extended periods of loss of power. This puts our minor issues in proper perspective.

While I might be tired of wading through the water puddles and muddy patches in my yard, other people are facing the loss of their homes or injuries to their loved ones. We are reminded in the Word of God that we are to be considerate of the needs of those around us. The Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 2:3-4, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” In the following verses, Paul presents Jesus as the perfect example of how we should humbly serve one another.

As you know, many of our CBC family members are facing some serious health concerns. Whether the storm of life is a literal hurricane or a personal crisis, the need for prayer support and encouragement is still very real. We know that at such times the church is to operate as a “faith family,” by lifting up and loving one another. It is my joy to serve in a church that understands our role in ministering to one another in love.

Serving in love,

Bro. Jim
