Busy Season at CBC

At the time that I am writing this article, we are 63 days away from Christmas. What makes that significant is that we are approaching the end of a year that has just gotten started. The days, weeks, months and years keep zipping by in a blur of activity!

Yet, the most exciting times of the year are still ahead. Autumn, the transition from summer into winter, is one of my favorite seasons. In addition to the beautiful fall colors, there are some special holidays that take place. I’m not too crazy about dressing in costumes, but I do enjoy watching the excitement of the children during the October festivities. We are having our “Fall Fellowship” on Sunday, October 30th, after the morning worship service. We will have a “pot-luck” lunch of soups, sandwiches, hotdogs, and chili. The “Chili Contest” is open to anyone who thinks they can beat the pastor’s “Texas Chili.” Bring your candy to be shared with the children, as they “Trick- or-Treat” upstairs in the Education Building.

The next holiday to appear on our rapidly disappearing calendar is Thanksgiving. Our annual “Thanksgiving Dinner” is planned for November 20th, following the morning worship service. This will also be a covered dish or “pot-luck” fellowship. As always, we will also have a time of sharing praises to the Lord for His abundant blessings to our Cordova Baptist family. This is one of the most precious times of the year for your pastor, as you offer testimonies to God’s faithfulness and goodness to His people.

We will have two very special Sunday celebrations in the final month of the year. Our CBC family will be observing the Lord’s Supper on December 11th and celebrating Christmas morning together on December 25th. Our custom is to have only the morning worship service on Christmas Day. We will not be having Sunday School that morning to allow our families time to open presents before coming to church. I know that several classes and groups will be having parties during the month of December, but our family worship on Christmas Day will be a spectacular service.

I hope that you will mark your calendars and make plans to be present for all of these gala occasions. It is a blessing to be able to enjoy these holidays with our CBC family.

Serving in love,

Bro. Jim
