Our PASTOR: Dr. Jim Muston

Brother Jim was called as our pastor in October of 1992. Prior to coming to Cordova Baptist Church, he was the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Eudora, Mississippi from 1987 to 1992. He also served as the Associate Pastor/Education and Administration at Whitehaven Baptist Church from 1984 to 1987. Before coming to the Memphis area, he was a pastor to churches in Texas and Louisiana.

He grew up in the small, central Texas town of Rockdale. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. He holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas and the Doctor of Ministry degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

Brother Jim met and married his wife, Sandy, while attending college. Sandy is a Special Education teacher with Shelby County Schools, working at Oak Elementary in Bartlett. The have three grown children and four grandchildren. Together, they enjoy traveling, camping and spending time with family.

Our past strongly believes that the church is to be a spiritual family, sharing in one another's trials and triumphs. He emphasizes the importance of family in his preaching and practice. He has infused this belief into the congregation's heart.  This family spirit has led our congregation to be warmly receptive to new members.
